‘Think global, act local’ is a phrase frequently used by entrepreneurs. Nowadays this phrase is also becoming more common to incubator and accelerator managers as they are held accountable for their role in boosting innovation and their contribution to regional economic development. As a result, they are often involved in attracting foreign companies (soft landing) and stimulating high-tech start-up companies to become global innovators (high jumping). International R&D driven Incubators (IRDI’s) may serve both functions when well embedded in regional innovation support systems and connected to international innovation instruments.
